I stayed at the Duxton in Melbourne a couple of years ago, only let down was the size of the room. Otherwise everything else was as good as any hotel in Melbourne that I've stayed, including Grand Hyatt, Crown Towers and Le Meriden.

I stayed a couple of times at the Duxton in Perth, which is a good hotel. Not as glitzy as the Hyatt but certainly much better than others. Room size is OK.
I haven't had any problem with the front desk but do not have a wonderful memory either. All in all, a good 4-star hotel. But I've stayed there only because it was allocated to me, not by my own choice. The problem is that they only have six locations so taking advantage of their Priority Traveller programme is difficult; they don't seem to offer airline miles either. It takes 3,000 points (3,000 AUD) for an upgrade to a Club floor room, which will take a long way to come.
