Mileage run?

Try priceline.com, if you're dead set on a price.

Welcome to FT.

Since you know when, where, and why you want to go (and this is not for accumulating miles) and you have a specific price in mind, perhaps your best bet would be to contact a consolidator that specializes in Japan travel or a good travel agent.

This forum is for people who don't care too much where they're going--they just want miles and lots of them and they want them cheap.

Best of luck in finding a fare you like.

STL-NRT(Tokyo)

Hello there;

After living/working in Japan for 3 years with frequent trips home to STL- I've found that the majic combo is FLEXIBILITY. Try strange combinations such as flying east from STL to Tokyo(I've only seen that happen once). If you're using AA try a routing using both mid-continent hubs--STL-DFW-NRT-ORD-STL --or vice versa with DFW & ORD. You've got a pretty tight budget, but it is not un-doable. As previously suggested try a travel consolidator. I've only used JTB (Japan Travel Bureau) a couple of times for trips originating from Japan but had no difficulties...they have a branch in Chicago try this link it priced at $580 but dates were only for June travel. http://www.jtbusa.com/enhome/s-chi1.asp additonally there is 'cheapseats.com' and that worked for my parents to visit they paid little more than $600 per person for a trip to Japan(STL-ORD-NRT-ORD-STL)
Unfortunately the time you want to travel is very heavily traveled in the Japanese market as it is during the holiday season. That is both good and bad, in that there are many 'deals & promotions' but those fill very quickly with the herded masses leaving Japan for the holidays.
Oh and don't forget to pack your patience (for the trans-pac flight) and spirit of adventure (for the culture shock).
