Safety Risks At Heathrow

Air traffic controllers and pilots have complained to the UK Government about safety risks at Heathrow arising from new runway procedures initiated by ministers, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Air professionals say the alterations, intended to improve noise relief for most of the airport's neighbours, are over-complicated and likely to increase the dangers of controller error and difficult last-minute manoeuvres for incoming aircraft, the newspaper said.

The advisory board of Chirp, the industry's confidential safety reporting network, has relayed its fears to the Department of Transport.
