Booking TGV using railpasses

I am after some advice on booking costs and deadlines for the TGV between Paris and Avignon.

My partner and I have purchased a France and Italy Railpass to use in April/May of this year whilst we are on our honeymoon. These passes can be used on the national railways of both countries, but you are required to pay a supplement to travel on fast trains and o/night trains.

My agent in Australia indicted that it would cost us A$65 to reserve a seat on the TGV (about US$50). Does anyone have any experience at booking the seat once they are in France? Would be interested to know how far you needed to book ahead, costs, etc.

Day(s) before travel or day of travel unless holiday periods, then you need a few days. I don't think you need to worry. Not for the fast intercity trains. There are lots.
