Here's one thing not to do: Never pay an upfront fee for someone to sell your timeshare. If you bought from the developer, you will lose big time. Depends a lot on where you own and which week. One of the best places to get info on selling is at www.tug2.net. There is lots of advice and there are also several BBS where you can post questions.
At which resort do you own?

No matter what anyone says, and what they want to charge you to sell it, none of these resale agencies can sell it for any more than you can. So, if you pay their upfront fees, you are just throwing more money down a hole.
That said, your Villa Del Mar timeshare is probably worth about $1,000 to $1,500, tops, on the resale market. You might have realized this, or it might come as a shock to you. In either event, I wish you the best of luck in selling, and definitely visit the Timeshare Users' Group (www.tug2.net) to learn more about selling it.

Please explain what's going on here a little more egtravel. I read your post from July 2002 where you asked the same question regarding the same resort but a different week (15 instead of 18). Also, you gave an interesting story regarding that timeshare. Here are your posts from that thread:
"Anyone know of the best way to sell a timeshare? A little background: it's in Puerto Vallarta, 2 bed/2 bath, week 15."
"Thanks Biff, I didn't know you had replied until now because I didn't get an e-mail notification. The property is Villa Del Mar and as far as the price I have no clue. I have seen some for sale around the $10k price range in Yahoo, etc. for the same 2 bedroom, 2 bath, high season units.
The reason I would like to sell is because I don't use it (although I did just last March). My mom and dad used it, but she has since passed away and my dad doesn't have a desire for it either.
Thanks again!"
So did you enjoy selling your parents' timeshare so much that you bought another at the same "tried and true" resort in order to sell it? In such a case, why plead ignorance regarding selling them and wait for someone (each time) to ask you for the details before giving them? The most obvious answer seems to be that you wanted to take advantage of someone who wanted to take advantage of you; trying to sell your timeshares through FT while making it look as if you were just looking for information. This may be a completely wrong assumption, and if so I apologize, but this is how it appears to me. I've read many of your posts in travelbuzz and must say you certainly appear to be a legitimate member of FT. But in the future, it would be nice if you kept a few things in consideration:
1) Please be forthcoming with any details you think are relevant in an initial post so we don't have to do guesswork and can help you the most.
2) If you have an old post and the topic has not significantly changed, please bump it with whatever addition/change you want instead of creating a new post, that way we know what advice you've received so far and everything is consolidated to be a better resource for others to search and read about.
3),4),5) all regard possible conclusions I've arrived at from reading your post. I won't put them here since I don't know the actual situation and you can probably arrive at them yourself from what I've already posted above.

Thanks for replying Avalon. You refreshed my memory! Actually, I still have the same **** timeshare. I had totally forgotten I posted that here a while back. I have gone to so many websites and get such crap information...I just plum forgot. My stupidity for not checking first....bad me, bad me!
I also dropped the ball for a long time due to a very busy schedule, blah blah blah. I still would like to get rid of it, but have not persued it whole-heartidly. I think that website www.tug2.net I got info on is my best bet to be able to get rid of it. Sorry for the confusion and this will be the last posting on this topic for me.
