How do I get a INSPASS?

I saw a machine at the Stansted airport in the customs area. It looks like it reads your handprint. Anyone know how to get a pass?

Thanks,

CF

No, not Stansted, it was LAX I believe.

If I live in the US, can I still get one?

I thought this was a great idea but they do not appear to be increasing in number of airports served very fast. I asked an INS agent last week at LAX (the machine was not working) about the program and he simply shrugged.

As for getting the pass at LAX, as you recheck your bags once clearing customs there is a temporary-looking building behind the screeners. Go around to the opposite side. Inside there is the office that issues the passes. I believe there are signs posted.

Kevin:

Thanks for the info on the LAX office.

I'm coming in through JFK and MIA later this month, would you know the locations of the offices there?

These are great when the machines are actually working. Increasingly they are not. When I inquired of I was told there is no money appropriated to repair them. Ditto for the machines that make the actual cards. You better call ahead to see if they are in operation. The last 2 times I called EWR both areas were down.

The card was easier to get than to use. I believe in the year I've had mine the machines were open and working only once. Nonetheless, even if the machine is broken but open, it refers you to an agent near the machine and you get immediately served ahead of masses in the line yearning to be free.

The INSpass still works great at LAX for me. A friend and I arrived on Thai at Bradley last month and used the INSPass. Mine worked fine, and hers said "see the agent" (it was expired). She was able to cut in line (as per the rules) and get served immediately. Then we went to the little office and got her card renewed in about 2 minutes.

Note that while at security level Orange (as we are now) or higher, INSPass is turned off. You can still go to the front of the queue, however.
