Taking shoes off...
Ok, here's a strange question. But I've been doing a lot of cross-country flights and it seems there are a lot of people taking their shoes off an putting their feet everywhere. Typically I frown upon this and if my shoes are bothering me, I take them off and no one knows since a blanket is covering my legs.
To me, this seems more polite than putting shoeless feet up on the seat in front of them, on the bulkhead wall -- or even in the chair next to them at the gate (all of which I've seen in the past week).
Let me know if I'm being oversensitive to this, but I think it is gross.

Are they ugly? A guy I flew with in F the other week had toes like a tree sloth.

On longer flights I generally take off my shoes. I will however put on a pair of big old wool socks that I bring along. Feet are not the best feature on the human body. What I find more annoying is when the person sitting in front of you puts on hairspray (and of course gets you as well)or the person next to you thinks it is a good idea to cut their finger nails. But this thread is not about flying pet peeves....

If I had to think of things which bother me while flying, the shoe issue is low on the list. While of course having someone spread their foot odor is not exactly pleasant, there are worse things:
1. Kids kicking the back of your seat
2. Sitting next to someone whose body size takes up a significant portion of your seat
3. Being near someone who is heavily perfumed (male & female)
I can deal with feet.

My traveling friends and I were sitting in a row together when we noticed a foul smell all of a sudden. We looked all around and finally found two guys behind us who had put their stocking feet right on the ends of our armrests. We asked them politely and they put their feet down, but the smell lingered for a long long time.

Go take a road trip in the US and look at other cars. You'll find people's feet on the dashboards, out the window, on the rear shelve... basically everywhere.
And go to any home. Recliners with footrests, foot stools, etc...
Americans grow up like this, so it's not surprising that they have to put their feet up on the plane!

Hide your feet under the blanket...hmm...and lots of people stepping on the blankets, shoes on or not. Then some poor passengers putting the same blankets over their faces when they sleep...

I'm not a big foot fan, but it really doesn't bother me. I can think of a host of other things about people's flying habits that are much more bothersome.

Socks or bare feet!!!! What amazes me is when passengers go to the LAV with out shoes on... YUCK... I usually mention to them "that "ain't" just water on the floor"!!! and they look at me like I am crazy...
