It does? Where to?

Well despite my fear of being labelled wrong and making wild guesses - they fly to Cairns via some pacific islands.

Yup, i remember when DL started their alliance w/NW & DL and I thought whooo-who i can finally go to OZ w/ my miles. Well, it turns out that it routed me via NRT and then Guam. It was much much much longer than via Qantas or United

The high price of getting to Australia is why I stopped going there 5 years ago, it just wasn't worth the long flight, high fares, fairly poor Qantas service, strict customs/immigration, etc.

My suggestion to rack up more miles: Fly on the cheap fares to BKK, then continue to Australia on a separate ticket.

Well if "some Pacific Islands" are defined as Honolulu and Guam you might be right.

Some folks however might regard them as very important parts of the USA empire rather than "some Pacific Islands."

My source of information about not undercutting Qantas is my Australian husband and there is no "link" to him.

I could not find any corrobation on line, however I did find evidence that the Sydney to US market is controlled (limited) by the Australia government. This has the effect of keeping the prices high.

The new arrangements preclude operations by either Singaporean or Australian airlines either via the United States to the other country, or beyond the other country to the United States. The Ministers agreed that the issue of trans-Pacific rights could be considered again when there is greater stability in the global aviation market.

Thanks Karen. As I think I posted earlier:

UA can and do discount tickets when and if they wish. Our Entertainment Book here has a year valid coupon for 25% off ANY fare UA sells themselves to the public.

Your husband got some of those for Qantas? Thought not.

Do Qantas offer "anywhere USA" you wish for $A200 extra RT over LAX discount fare, inc USVI, Puerto Rico and Alaska? UA do - we booked one to Puerto Rico (via IAD and STT) in November.

Do Qantas even FLY to anywhere except LAX and NYC on QF metal?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Er, why, yes they sure do ... Qantas also flies its own metal to a pacific island that some folks might regard as a very important part of the USA empire. How soon some forget :-)

ozstamps, where can I get said entertainment book. I will be traveling from the US empire to Sydney Feb or March. My Aussie husband does not know about it. Are the discount coupons valid for flights purchased in the U.S.?

Thank you for the information.

Karen you can order it of course via the USA Ent Book office.

25% off any every UA ticket sold by UA AUSTRALIA to the USA

And a free 5000 mile voucher, and a 2 for 1 biz class coupon even.

Book is worth its cost many times over, just on this UA page.
