I think travel buzz, as FT is now, is necessary to obtain a "critical mass" to answer a lot of the questions people have, especially if they're time-sensitive. The region forums can lie dormant for days, and it must be frustrating for those who post a question and don't get a response, when a post on Travelbuzz could (in many instances) get 5+ responses in <24 hours.

On the other hand- especially with the limitations of the search function, it'd be great if buzz topics could make their way into the subgroups for archival purposes.

Of course, it's unfair to ask volunteer moderators to be reference librarians, so this will never happen.

The main thing that drives me nuts about the "buzz" forums is that (IMHO) there's a big gap between travelbuzz and milesbuzz- air travel threads that aren't miles-related thread get closed at miles buzz and sent over here. However, most if not all, of the air travel discussion on FT occurs on the FT Miles side of FT. Hence my proposal for "Air Buzz" as a new buzz forum....

MilesBuzz has been quite strictly monitored, and I think much to the improvement of MilesBuzz.

I think strict monitoring of TravelBuzz will have the effect of increasing the activity in the other threads, and allowing for easy searching of repetitive questions such as "Should I buy a ..... pass when I go to Paris/London/Venice"

I also think one gets better answers in the specialized threads, as the more knowledgable seem to read and answer in the specialized thread, while not contributing to TravelBuzz.

Suggestions perhaps? http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...orum/smile.gif

No, I think that the moderator is more likely to see it here.

But how can a moderator influence the layout of Flyertalk?

With the new board software approaching and the introduction of "my Flytertalk" I think the whole issue will be resolved...

Is there an ongoing discussion or list of new features anywhere? I looked in a few likely places and didn't find anything. This leads me to conclude (perhaps wrongly) that it's not general knowledge that such changes are in the works.

I wonder just how many problems new software will take care of. It still can't push use of the low-traffic forums which essentially overlap others in scope. It's just bad forum design to have 4 or 5 different places all seem appropriate to ask the same question. This type of overlap should be minimized.

Don't be ridiculous. You know full well the issue here. If the moderator was doing his job he would be (1) moving mis-posted threads to the appropriate forum and (2) encouraging posters to post in the correct forum when starting a thread.

Well, there's no need to be so snippy. http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...m/confused.gif

Apparently, you are unhappy with the moderation here ... ?

I assume you have contacted the moderator (richard) and/or Randy? What were their replies?

What moderation???

richard Jan 19, 2004 1:18 pm

enough is enough. Please start a new thread in Only Randy Petersen. I cannot move this there.

It is off-topic in TravelBuzz!.
