Compensate? I seriously doubt that any airlines compensated, beyond trying their hardest to get travelers to their destination.
AFAIK, bad weather is not the airlines' fault, and all airlines exclude weather delays from the categories of delays for which compensation is given.

Was stuck trying to get home to BOS. Flying US found out at airport that BOS was closed for the day. Flew to PIT and stayed at 4 points Sheraton PIT on my own dime and flew back this morning. Still only one runway and it took over an hour to get my checked luggage.

Got stuck trying to get back to BOS ( and from BOS to LHR) from the Bahamas on Dec 6.
Ended up staying a night in Miami ( AA got us a great rate at the Sofitel Hotel which was a great place to stay ) and then a night in DC ( no help ) before finally getting into BOS Monday afternoon and back to England at 6am this morning
One looooooooooong weekend
