Passport amendment Question

I am hoping that someone here can help me. I sent in my passport for amendment about a month ago in order to change my name on it. I know the addressee received it because I tracked the mail. I have yet to receive it.
Do amendments usually take this long?
When can I expect to receive it?
I'm not travelling internationally anytime soon, but I just want to put my mind at ease.
Thanks.

I think I remember reading that 6 weeks is the time frame for processing passports and given the present climate, it has been taking that long.

Good luck.

Has anyone had any experience with this lately? My wife sent in her passport for a name change when we got back from AMS on Wednesday (12/3). We didn't think we'd be traveling internationally again soon, BUT...

Found a nice ($375) DUB fare for MLK weekend in January. We're wondering if it's risky to book. Any help appreciated!

I sent my passport in about 6 weeks ago for a name change.

Are you sitting down? It was returned to me no more than 7 days later! The DMV took 3 weeks and I couldn't believe how quickly the passport was returned!

ooooo! Speaking of name changes...I'm getting married Dec 31 and my sweetie hasn't decided on whether to change her name or not...it's not that big a deal to me. Anyway, if/when she does, is she going to have to get a new passport? Or can she just let it slide until it expires and get her name changed on the renewal making sure that her airline tix use the same name as on the passport?

Wow, less than a week. The DMV was the slowest for my wife, too.

Jonesing: congratulations! Your new wife can book tickets in her old passport name until it expires. We only ordered a new one so she could change over her frequent flyer number name. Bottom line: the name on the passport has to match the one on the ticket.

If your spouse hasn't changed the name on the passport after marriage, put a down-sized photocopy of the marriage certificate in the passport. It wouldn't hurt to have actual marriage certificate with her.
