Good barber in Chicago

A question completely out of left field I know...

Can anyone recommend a good barber in Chicago in the downtown/Mag. Mile area? I am desperately in need of a haircut and don't fancy getting butchered...

Thanks in advance,

David

Well, I don't know how high/low maintenance you are, but if you're low maintenance like me then I've got the perfect one for you:

Alfredo's Barber Shop.
Its on State between Pearson and Chestnut (just North of Chicago Avenue).
Men only. $15. No BS, just good haircuts, and hot shaves.
Ask for Tony, he's good. Alfredo is good to.
If you get a haircut from Tony, tell him Greg sent ya'. (I was just there on Tuesday).

IMHO one of the best:

Truefitt and Hill,

900 North Michigan Ave, 6th Floor, Chicago 60611 312-337-2525

Description: MAGNIFICENT MILE. The stand-out of men's barbering and grooming products. They specialize as a gentleman's full-service English barber shop and are known for their pampering hot lather shaves.

Neither manly nor cheap, but there's Vidal Sassoon at Water Tower Place.

Ditto! I went there for years when I lived in Chicago.

For high-maintenance (but on the North side) go to Carrissima Salon at Clark and Surf (1 block North of Diversey).

Ask for Patricia. I've gone to her for 8 years, and she's fantastic. She's $50 for a men's cut.

If you are looking for low-maintenance with high-convenience, just go to the barber in the airport. I did this in Miami one time. It was one of the best haircuts I've ever received.

They can be found in almost all decent-sized airports. I was even surprised to learn that Omaha has one. I don't know whether ORD has one.

I go here all the time. They generally do a good job -- no hassle. If you're going at a prime time, you may want to call ahead.
