Syd Intl Transit Security Check-in?
Flying UA(839?) LAX-SYD. After a long tiring flight I depart from the plane, ready to relax for an hour or so before the SYD-MEL flight. Unfortunately, the hour becomes 30 minutes because I'm lining up to clear security to get into the terminal?
Why do they have security check for those people getting OFF the plane? It's very annoying....

In the days after 9/11 I had several flights where all the airports were doing this. Some of the transits you didnt get to the transit lounge because took so long to get through security
And of course it was so hurriedly set up that it wasnt efficiently laid out - some long detours, stairs, etc.

This has always been the case at many airports all over the world, particularly at terminals with international flights. rufus102 was at Sydney's international terminal. It is becoming a universal requirement - airports are having to build extra bits to their terminals to ensure that this happens.
If for no other reason, it makes sense for terminals with international arrivals because the airport simply can't control how good security is at the airport from which the flight departed. If you don't put all transit and connecting pax through security, you leave a large hole in your own protection ready to be exploited by bad guys.

actually in this case, i have bad news for you: It wasn't the airline.
Having taken this same flight recently, there was a door you were supposed to go to, then down a stairs to to a bus that skipped security.
sounds like you missed it and went into the terminal.

Exactly the same thing will happen to you when you return to The US.
You will get off a flight and before you get on another aeroplane in LAX,SFO,ORD,IAD,MIA,JFK ( I have done recently) and have to go thru Security again.
Sympathy, but get used to it
