Cheap trips to Austin?
Hello all,
I need to fly from NYC to Austin, Tx in the first weekend in March for a wedding and I am stunned at how expensive the fares are. Any suggestions on how to do this cheaply? Southwest is the cheapest I can find, but that's still $360 apiece, and it departs from Long Island, so requires a long trip. Plus, the times are lousy. Any suggestions?

How far is Hartford from you? AA has a $203 base fare, likely because it is a Southwest gateway. Only bad part is that it requires travel T/W/Sat. Looks like other carriers only go out as far as Jan-Feb with this fare.

Check alternate departure airports other than your NYC staples (LGA, EWR, and JFK). I see numerous carriers offering $198 roundtrips from Long Island (ISP) to Austin in March 2004 thanks to the Southwest effect. The same goes for arrival aiports. SAT, for example, is only an hour and fifteen minute drive from Austin.
