Hi all, what carriers charge an extra fee if you want exit row seats? (although i think its a crime because they should be paying YOU if you need to "volunteer your services"

Virgin Atlantic does indeed charge for an exit row on all flights. I think something like 45 pounds each way. From what I hear, they make a lot of extra money off of this. Seems like a good idea to me.

As this has nothing to do with a mileage run, I'm going to send it off to the TravelBuzz forum.

Of course, there is something even worse than getting a non-exit row. It is getting one of the back rows.
It is impossible to get any rest in a back row -- too many people are standing next to you trying to get into the toilets. You get last service on meals and very often find that your first choice is not available.
I know. For years, I *always* sat in the back rows. In fact, if a back row wasn't available there was no way that I was getting on that plane!
The reason? I am a smoker. Smoking was reserved for the last three rows or so of the plane.
No more. Uh, huh. Forget it. The Health Fascists have had their way. Smoking is OUT.
I made a solemn oath never again to sit in the back rows of a plane. If I can pre-reserve a seat, I do. If I can't, I make certain that I am among the first at check in. I *ALWAYS* get an aisle seat -- either in the first rows or an exit row.
Then, when I have to go to the toilet, I pass by those last three rows. I see unhappy people sitting in them and know that they are non-smokers (as most smokers are doing the same thing that I am).
REVENGE! SWEET REVENGE!
