Brooklyn to JFK (and back)

I am staying with a friend near Prospect Park and flying in and out of JFK. What is the easiest/cheapest/inbetween way of getting from one to the other?

I know subway method - but involves a change (don't fancy that with a large suitcase). Is there a bus servic? How much would a cab be?

The cheapest is by subway bus combo--which with any large bag is not too easy. Livery cabs (car service) may not be as cheap as a metered yellow cab. There are "Super Shuttles" but these are mainly geared for pickups in Manhattan. My rough guess is that from Prospect Park locale, $25 is the yellow cab rate--if you call a car service they can quote a price (since their rates are fixed in advance!) Have a nice flight.

I live near the Verrazano (hence straight shot on the Belt...I think it's closer than Prospect Park from JFK) and taxi usually is about $30-32 plus tip to JFK. One other alternative is if you're pretty close to the Flatbush/Atlantic Ave. or Nostrand LIRR stations is to take the LIRR from there to Jamaica and then transfer to the direct bus. Probably will cost about $8-10 total ea. way. That's the one thing I miss when I moved from Forest Hills, then two airports were equally as good to get to, now all three airports are equally bad to get to. <g>

The easiest is a taxi

The cheapest is the bus/subway combinatin, which will be bus ride once you get off the subway.

A listing of different choices from JFK to Brooklyn with times and prices is at the airports page at

Ahh let's see, I always borrow a car and drive (although only really possible if picking someone up). I always go Eastern Pkwy - Atlantic Ave - N Conduit Blvd - Belt Pkwy - JFK.
