Getting to Tel Aviv
Hello,
Im having some real troubel locating discount tickets to Israel from BOS-NYC. Im looking to visit family leaving around the 19-22 or December. If anyone can point me in the direction of a good travel agent, or for that matter consolidator that would be great! I am desperately seeking fares less than 1000 dollars.
Thanks

Hi,
I think you biggest probelm is you are wanting to travel around Christmas time from the US. You will probably need to go vai Europe and these routes are very popular at this time of year.

Yes, I know travelling around Christmas holidays are a problem, although I have done this a few times before but somehow this year I cant find any decent fares. Any advice for a good fare from Europe to TLV, because getting to London from the US is not a problem at all but anything I look at from say, LON to TLV is very expensive.

There are a significant number of charter flights each week from London Gatwick to Tel Aviv with the UK charter airlines - Monarch in particular has made a specialism of these for years, and others operate as well. I can't recommend one particular such operator (others probably can) but surfing the web with Gatwick and Tel Aviv (there are no scheduled flights between the two) should bring results.
It is precisely because the regular fares are high that such charters continue, in the style of transatlantic ones in the 1970s.
In the winter when there are less flights to Tel Aviv there are also charters from the UK into Eilat in southern Israel which you could consider. A problem of course is you are wanting the very peak week for demand, and many of the seats will have already gone.

Air Canada is showing tons of availability in December for LGA-TLV via YYZ. I tried 12/19-12/26, but there seemed to be lots of other dates available. Total fare (on travelocity.ca) including all fees and taxes is C$1212.43--about US$850.
Good Luck

I too would suggest Air Canada. The YYZ-TLV nonstop allows you to bypass Europe. As you are in Maine, you could fly out of BOS.
$850 round trip seems reasonable for the holiday season.

It's been a few years since I've tried it and I don't know if this still works, but check out cheap flights to CAI, then hop over to TLV on a cheap airline. I've tried El Al and Air Sinai on this hop. El Al was expensive and much more comfortable in the air, but Air Sinai was cheap and vastly easier on the ground in CAI. I had to book the Air Sinai in a CTO in Cairo. But at least I spent a couple days seeing the Cairo Museum and the pyramids.
