Immigration Question II

If a person is immigrating from another country to the US, do they have to arrive in the US at the airport of the city that they plan to live in? I know they have to register once they arrive in the US but can it be in any city/airport?

I am on a non-immigrant Visa, but the information I gotten were in generall for Visa people, I was just told that the Immigration officers will clear all papers at my first point of entry and it does not matter that I will not travel immediatly to where I will live. I do have a certain grace period to get my papers currently endorsed after I arrived.

Any port of entry is fine.

Good luck.

There are way more places to live in that are not port of entries then there are that are port of entries, so this would be impossible if people were restricted to only their entry location.

Does anyone know how long it takes to go through immigration for a first timer? The reason I ask is that the point of entry is SJC with a connection onward to ORD in 2 hours. I was under the impression that the process could take longer than that. Airline agent told me that if immigration caused us to miss our connection, we would be protected. Does this sound right?

Yes, you will be protected due to an immigration delay. SJC doesnt get many intl flights so you should have no siginificant delays there anyway. It should take you 60 minutes tops if everything is in order.
