We stayed at the
Hotel Torre Guelfa
Borgo SS Apostoli 8 - 50123 Firenze
in the spring and absolutly loved the place. It's got a private tower to watch the sunset from, the room was quite decent, the staff great.
If you do a google search you will find more information on them, their home page at
http://www.hoteltorreguelfa.com/
isn't much help. We will certainly look there first next time we go. There are a few pictures of the place off our page of pictures from that trip:

You might also want to check out the Hotel Porta Rossa. Huge rooms, nice hotel, good location, reasonably priced. You'll find it on a Google search.

Thank you for your answers.
I posted it in TravelBuzz to get more attention in comparison to the destination subgroups.
Now you can find the topic right there:

Stayed at Hotel Casci, which was pretty good. My posting, however, is to recommend in my most persuasive way my favorite restaurant in Italy: Il Ritrovo at Via de' Pucci 4/A, a block or so from the duomo. I'm in love with Rosetta and her husband is world class in the kitchen. The Bistecca Fiorentino is formidable. Hope you get there.

Well, allow me to recommend Ristorante Il Profeta, Via Borgognissanti, 93 in Firenze. Ask for the proprietor, Claudio, and make sure you get the pici, a tuscan pasta with a meat sauce that is out of this world.

If you can stand another restaurant recommendation...
ZaZa in the San Lorenzo market. Recommended to us by just about everyone we asked for a good place for dinner.

If you haven't been to Slow Traveler you need to spend some time there at their Italy forum. http://www.slowtalk.com/6/ubb.x
