Int'l Transit Procedures in Canada

I am flying JFK-YVR-HKG round trip on CX next month and am curious what the international transit procedures are like in Canada. Do we have to clear Canadian customs and/or security at YVR, in either direction? And will we pre-clear US Customs at YVR on the return leg?

CX's YVR-JFK flight does not pre-clear US immigration in Vancouver. You will depart from Vancouver's international terminal and clear US immigration in New York.
