Joining an alliance
I'm just curious as to why it takes so long for carriers to become alliance members. For example, US Airways plans to be a Star Alliance member, but this will take perhaps a year to institute.
Codeshare, frequent flyer, and other marketing agreements seem to take place much more rapidly. In other words, if two carriers decide to share FF benefits, they seem to be able to accomplish this almost instantaneously. So if US Airways wants to conduct such agreements with the 15 or so Star Alliance members, why would this take an entire year to accomplish?
