Last week MIA had signs on the machines saying they are down due to threat level orange. Interestingly, the guts of the machine seemed to be missing as well

Maybe MIA is trying to make sure it retains it's "most difficult place to re-enter the US" title? (Unofficial, of course!)

My experience is that LAX think INSPASS is great and really promote it. Recently I came in from SCL and was the first to arrive in the Intl. Terminal and saw the INSPASS machine roped off. When I went to an agent, she told me next time, just move the tape as they rope it off to stop everyone walking through that way!
I told her I was worried someone would shoot me!

I tried to use the INS pass machine at UA LAX today. The machine worked, but it said my pass was expired. This is the second time it's done that before it should have. So I went to the office and they renewed it for 2 years.
I asked the INS guy about SFO and he said his partner went up to SFO last week and got the machines and the card setup system up and running. So everything should be fine in SFO. He told me to let him know if there were any problems.
