Crazy prcing on Orbitz for next weekend
I like Orbitz's 'this weekend' 'next weekend' pricing.
However, have you ever noticed that 1/2 of what is displayed is crazy pricing (i.e. next weekend DAL-FLL $1600+).
Has orbiz ever made a sale from people looking for a special and paying such amounts? Why do they even bother? In my opinion anything over $500 is not a special.

Half way around the world in first class for $500 is not a special? When they offered IAD-LHR in F for $1300, I thought that a deal. $1300 for IAD-CDG in Biz a deal( I flew both). I'd like to see another under $1500 transatlantic. I missed the SAS special last week.

Not whats happening in Florida besides Spring Break and next weekend is also Easter but relatives in ATL couldnt find a flight ATL/MIA or ATL/FLL for under $400 and note the rental car companies are really booked. National and Alamo has no cars available next weekend.

Florida is just an example.
See all of these examples.
About 1/2 of the fares do not seem like deals.
Does anyone really say '$1500 that is a great price' and think this is a good enough deal to entice them to travel or were they going to travel anyway.

Orbitz sends me deal alerts and I've always found them to be good and really solid. Like any other online tix, you have to jump on them when they appear, but when you do the fares are great. I got a great fare a few months ago to go down to Ft. Lauderdale.

Everyone keeps missing my point.
Does anyone really get the 'specials' list, see a price for $1500 (domestic), and is enticed by such a price to travel at the last moment?
I will claim that for $1500 that person was going to travel regadless of the price and Orbitz would do better just advertsing the lower priced specials (i.e. less than $500).
In reference to Florida: MIA is on sale for next weekend for $194...a normal person could be enticed with that price.

I don't know where these surveys about ticket prices being down from last year come from. It darn sure isn't coach fares.
If the business fares are down that brings the average down but even out of the airports served by Southwest prices are considerably higher than last year at least out of the Northeast.
