How safe are airlines - A statistic
http://www.aerointernational.de/Unfallstatistik.htm
The article/list is in a German magazine. It's self explaining.
The best airlines are: Quantas, Finnair, Cathay Pacific, Austrian Airlines, ANA, Virgin Atlantic, Emirates ...
The worst are: Avianca, CSA, Indian Airlines, Malev, Air India ...

for a laugh try google automatic translation of this page
"heart accumulations during the flight"
Yes, of course.
"The quintessence of the table, the Safety Ranking (last column) be based on the number of the deaths multiplied by thousands in relation to the years of the flight performance of each airline cumulated, however exclusively referred to the period of 1973 to 2001."
Oh, I see.
On a more serious note, I believe the gist of the article says that unstable (or communist) political climates make less safe airlines, and poor countries have less safe airlines.

Does anyone know the date of CX's accident over Vietnam, when an a/c was blown up by a pax for insurance reasons? I thought it was post-1973. If true, it would lead one to suspect the raw data forming the basis of what is already a relatively spurious exercise.
