Matt Bennett, publisher of First Class Flyer who goes by the nickname "Mr. Upgrade," says "the whole meal thing is overblown, especially in first class." His readers, he says, "don't care about the meal -- they want the room."
What a bunch of CROCK this is!!! If I wanted more room, I would sit in the first row of economy on an A319 or A320! Usually, the MAIN reason I upgrade is for the meal.

Yes, I agree with you. On UA the first Eco row on a 319/A320 has 3 or 4 windows - and at least as much legroom as international Business Class!

Welcome to Flyertalk flamboyant

The main reason I upgrade is for the larger/greater pitch seat and more room.

Welcome flamboyant 1! I think the writer of this article worked in an airline accounting department. I guess ultimately the seat is most important but I don't know. Excellent service with good food and wine can make the time pass much more quickly in a small seat versus a big seat with no food and surly service. I like F or C because of improved service and food, which means I don't have to rush in the airport to wait in line for McDonald's. I can board, have drinks and be ensured of a somewhat decent meal in flight. That not only makes the flight better but the time before and after when I'm not running around starving.
