Those ties are impossible to break with your bare hands. Good thing I carry a six inch blade in my carryon to cut the thing with, when I get to my hotel room.

Typical TSA idiocy! Even if they had placed this 'tamper-evident' seal on your bag, what good is it??? How about tamper-proof??? Does it even tell you what to do in case the 'tamper-evident' seal is missing or has been tampered with?

I have heard that they would put a note inside your luggage if it had been searched and that they were using plastic ties to re-secure bags. I guess it counts for something but certainly it is not enough to deter a thief. What about the bags that aren't searched though? They just get to go on ahead unlocked for anyone to steal from.

They have had a year to come up with a process for screening the bags and there is no reason they could not have done more than this to make sure your belongings are not so susceptible to theft. Instead they wait until the last minute and issue a statement that you have to leave your luggage unlocked.

Edit: for spelling

I do not feel safe. I am very scared of the TSA and its (hopefully) short-lived reign of terror.

Explain to me how I am supposed to lock my bags in MHT? The TSA is rifling through the bags in the secure area and I have NOT been given that option.

"Moron" Minetta had 15 Months to make this happen and he DROPPED the ball again. What an idiot.

Ties?

Tamper-Evident Seal?

I now have 6 of the TSA "We rifled through your bags" notices and I have yet to see a tie or "tamper-evident" seal.

I have however had a luggage strap stolen and another time the TSA Screener was too lazy to put the strap back on my bag and just threw it inside (A luggage strap is DESIGNED to go around the bag to keep it closed you MORONS)

These tamper evident seals are not at the airports yet that is why they are not on your bag yet. Soon there will be red and blue tamper evident locks. At CAE we do not have the CTX machines yet, so I do not know exactly how that system works. I will give you some advice on the airports that are using the the EDT machines for screening Checked bags. You can wait and put your locks back on your bags. Or you can leave it unlocked, and we will lock it when we are done. If there is a situation were there is a lock on a bag that we need to get into, you will be paged to remove it. If you are not there in timely manner we will be forced to cut the lock. I feel badly about this but all bags have to be screened. Hope that this helps. I look forward to seeing you at CAE.

What you don't seem to understand is not all airports have landside scanning so staying with your bags is not an option. And why the hell aren't the 'tamper evident seals' at the airports now. Or is this just something that was thought up at the last minute when people complained about leaving thier luggage unlocked?

I know that it seems simple to have all of the stuff in place but we just don't have all of the suplies yet. There are 429 airports, thats alot of plastic locks. For the meantime they are supposed to be useing cable ties. We are at CAE. You will see lots of changes in baggege, just like you saw at the CP. Just give it time, improvments will be made.

The TSA has know this was coming for over a year now. Sorry, but they have had plenty of time to get these things and have them in place when the baggage screening started. If there is anything the government has proven they can do well, it is spend money. They are masters when it comes to purchasing.

Folks, blaming the government for logistical failures is a waste of time. There are only two things to blame them for.

1. No plan for reimbursement for lost or damaged items.

2. Giving in to the terrorists and the terrorized (mostly the terrorized) and drastically reducing our liberties.

Are you sure about that? It is the Transportation Security Administration, and theft prevention is part of security. (Ask any retailer.) Property needs to be kept secure too.

I, for one, would be pleased to see some of the money being spent on "random security" for 80-year-old grandmas their preschool grandchildren, go toward better monitoring and prevention of theft from checked baggage. Now that would be real security in response to a real threat - something we could all be thankful for!
