I was pleased with the pants and shirts I bought at Raja's Tailors, 147 Sukhumvit Road, corner of Soi 11.
I did not order a coat.

There was an interesting article in Conde Nast Traveler about tailors in different countries about a month ago. The reporter went to "highly recommended" tailors in three different places - Bangkok, Hong Kong and one other I can't recall, Dubai? - and had suits made. He then took them to a Saville Row tailor and had them critiqued. One was awful - it wasn't even symmetrical. The London tailor basically concluded that the best suit was of similar quality and fit as what you could find on the rack in Italy but would have been cheaper in Italy. Granted, you can't really conclude from the story that this would always be the case but it was interesting reading nonetheless.

I read the article in CNT as well and it only covered the making of a suit. I've had numerous slacks and shirts made at PAUL's custom tailor shop in the River City Shopping Center next to the Sheraton on the river and would highly recommend him. Fast service, good material, and good fits. And very good prices, too.

You can get good but not excellent suits in BKK (for one thing the top-notch fabrics are not stocked in BKK, so you would have to bring your own fabric or make special arrangements to import it). For excellent suits you have to buy in HKG and it will cost about USD 1000 (not as cheap as it used to be, but good value). The Herald Tribune did a piece on this a year ago that is fun reading, see http://www.iht.com/articles/13517.html
