HELP: What To Do With Luggage in NYC?

Here's the scenario:

As part of a 4-day, 5-city trip three of us are arriving at Penn Station via an early morning Amtrak from PHL (with luggage, obviously).

Our first meeting is downtown (11 Mad.). Lunch meeting is in mid-town. Afternoon meeting is back downtown.

We then pick up a rental car and drive to Hartford. We're NOT staying in NYC that night.

I would prefer not to haul our luggage all over Manhattan (four cab rides).

Any ideas where we could store our luggage since we're not staying in any NYC hotel that day/night?

Could we slip a bellman a $20 or do security rules prevent that.

THANKS.

Why not just pick up the rental car earlier and leave the luggage in the trunk. The cost of parking won't be more than the cabs and the tip for a bellman.

1. Find a hotel close to where all your meetings are.

2. Goto the bellcaptain with your luggage and pretend like you just checked out and want to store your luggage for a while.

3. Slip him/her a nice tip.

Thanks!!

I know the Waldroff has a luggage check that is away from the lobby of the hotel, they don't care if youa re staying in the hotel or not ot use it. Maybe others can jump in with some other hotels. We have used the Waldroff from time to time since they closed the one in Grand Central.

If you see any references to the left luggage at either Penn Station or Grand Central as you are searching the internet, both of those have been closed since Sept 11, they don't store luggage anymore.

This was not the case for me as recently as this past May 2002 at Penn Station (in the south west corner of the station, and perpendicular to the Amtrak train ticket purchase counters). I kept my luggage at Penn Station for less than $5 per bag.

I will very happily stand corrected if the good news is they have reopened the storage areas, that is very good news.
