traveling on business: i never miss it.

traveling for pleasure: usually i've gone to bed at 6am. you know you're bad when you hit the hotel breakfast after you've hit the wrong end of the evening.

I'm wondering about the breakfast-going patterns of other frequent travelers: Do you head down to the dining room religiously first thing in the AM, or is your morning eating record spotty like mine? Do your hotel breakfast patterns vary with the purpose of your travel? g_leyser, can you enlighten us with some statistics on breakfast no-shows?

I can't claim to be an expert on this particular topic, but in general I would say most people DO take advantage of a complimentary breakfast.
Interestingly, very expensive hotels tend NOT to offer breakfast as part of the room rate, in fact expensive hotels don't usually include ANYTHING as part of the room rate. The thinking being: if you're rich you don't mind spending extra money to have breakfast.
Middle range hotels often NEED to offer breakfast to stay competitive.
Rest assured that if breakfast is included, it is somehow worked into your room rate. Hotels know that not everyone will show up. So if you missed your hotel breakfast this morning, congratulations on helping defray the cost of your neighbor's breakfast.

On a personal note, if I am up anyways (i.e. business travel) I will take advantage of the breakfast. If I am on pleasure travel, I will usually not wake up just for breakfast. (I am NOT a morning person by any means). I don't usually eat breakfast anyways, so I don't really feel like I'm missing anything. Plus, if I'm on vacation that probably means I was up late the night before. I'd rather sleep

Um...you aren't by any chance a craps player, are you?

I've had those nights myself: totally lose track of time, drink 16 or 20 beers over the course of eight or ten hours, sling dice till my arm falls off, and then am flabbergasted when I walk outside and see....sunlight!! Then it's panic time: gotta eat, sleep, and be back in the sportsbook in three hours.

My problem is I need to get on the road before they open up the breakfast service.

It's not breakfast so much that I want, it is access to real milk for my coffee!!!

If I am staying at a hotel with a lounge or breakfast buffet, I put on the room's coffeemaker and then head to the breakfast area only to get some coffee with milk (to go) and an extra cup of milk for the room coffee (I like my morning coffees). If they have fresh fruit, or maybe a bagel or muffin, I might take one for mid-morning snack.

If I am staying for more than a night, I usually buy a small container of milk and keep it in the mini-bar, fridge or even on ice...! Then I don't care about access to breakfast at all.
