post-9/11 mindset
Just announced on the speaker system in the London office tower I work in and via corporate email:
This afternoon (Weds 23/10/02) at 2.30pm a Boeing 737 will fly over Canary Wharf at a height of 1800 feet.
This is for a charitable event and has been authorised by relevant regulating bodies.
Please inform your staff of this event to ensure:
a) there is no undue panic
b) that the emergency services are not swamped with calls.

A few weekends ago, Navy was playing SMU in Dallas. The Navy arragned for a few F/A-18s to make fly over of the football staduim where SMU plays.
Well, later that week, the Dallas Morning News publshed a letter from a reader complaing about doing something like that in a post 9/11 world. Claimed it would casue panic, with people thinking the jets were off to intercept some threat.
Whatever... Some people really can't have any fun anymore.
