Search engine for finding best fare?
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.
What search engines should one consult to find the best fare?
Generally, I search travelocity and expedia, then cross reference to see if the airline they show has an even better rate on its own site. Then I compare it to rates available through consolidators by checking www.economytravel.com.
Is there an easier way to check all available rates? Are there other sources I should be checking?

Yahoo travel has a very good feature it is on the right side of the travel page, you've gota scrol down a 1/2 way its a box:
FIND OTHER BEST FARES
From:
To:
It comes up with very good fares, most of the time ristricted in many ways, but you could come up with something that will suit you.

There is no one best place for fares. Sometimes a place like Orbitz will beat the airlines by hundreds of dollars, sometimes it won't. Sometimes a consolidator will have a great fare, sometimes it will be more. You have to check all the places to make sure you have the best fare. Don't fall into the rut of believing that because three years ago some site had the lowest fare, it has ever since.

Recently on a 3-airline OAK-SEA-MSO-GTF-GEG-SEA-OAK routing, www.flyaow.com beat everbody else by $150. So they've been added to my list of sites to check

What is the site that will search all the other airfare sites for you?
FareScouter? FareSpider? I can't remember the name...

Just tried farechase.com and it seems like the search engine is a little biased against NW flights. I tried three different itineraries out of DTW and it's hard to believe that NW had none of the lowest fares that were found. Example: DTW-ATL 7/19-7/21. When priced on farchase, the lowest fare came back as Delta at 336.50. The NW site lists a fare of 334.00 for the same dates. Out of the 47 entries returned from the farchase search, none were for NW. If anything, this goes to show that you can't rely on any specific site to give you the best fares. You still have to shop around and check the alternatives.

Gosh, thanks. That's it... I can sleep tonight instead of hunched over Google looking for this thing!
