Less One ID Check?

Flying out of ORD Sunday the person checking boarding passes just before security said that the FAA had removed the requirement that ID's be checked at that stage. He said that ID's will be inspected upon check in and upon boarding. When I left ORF a few days prior they were still checking BP's and ID's before security. Have you guys seen this change at other airports?

The last two times I've flown, they only wanted tickets at security - not IDs. I was asked for ID at check-in and at boarding gate..

Until the Fed's take over 100%, you will find various differences between the airports. SEA only wants to see your boarding pass but TPA not only wants to see your ID but ask you to say your last name.

And that's supposed to ensure our security?

Don't you know terrorists can't read? Additionally, for the minority who do read, I'm sure they depend on picking up ID that someone dropped outside the airport and probably haven't had time to check the name. So by asking them to say the name out loud, we're probably foiling unknown number of terrorist attempts..

I'm not even going to speculate why Tampa was playing the name game. But, the fact is, you can pronounce your name any way you darn well please.

My name could be spelled "Shablotnik" and I could pronounce it "Smith" if I wanted to.

Geez!
