Ticket purchase (from foreign agent?)

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has any experience or advice about purchasing a ticket from a foreign travel agent in order to get a better price.

During my travel, I noticed that the Star Alliance RTW tickets are priced better at certain spots in the world as opposed to others. Is it possible to purchase one of these tickets from a foreign travel agent in order to get the better price?

I'm not looking to do anything illegal here, though I wouldn't mind exploiting a loophole or difference in currency price if that's all it is. The bottom line -- is this possible? I'd be perfectly happy to conduct the transaction over the phone and have them FedEx the ticket or whatever.

(It's my understanding that this is how often times ticket consolidators get better prices... ?)

Any information on this topic would be enlightening and very helpful to me!

Thanks very much,
Matt

Hi Matt! Welcome to FT!

Buying a ticket from anywhere in the world is legal. Your questions are better answered under OneWorld and StarAlliance forums. Places like Canada, Australia and New Zealand are always cheaper to buy your RTW from. Our fellow FT'er FewMiles has put together a great comparison chart with costs from countries around the world and he has very recently updated his charts.

Spider -- thanks for the reply. To be a little more clear, I was wondering if it's possible to purchase a ticket from an agent in say South Africa but to depart from say France or something like that. From what I've seen, this isn't possible... (It would be too darn easy to beat the system in that case anyway..)

I don't think this is allowed. But you can always get a cheapie from the States to South Africa, upgrade it with miles or vouchers and enjoy your cheap RTW from SA.
