Cell phone Help

I and my cell phone are based in Indonesia. I will take a home leave in the USA this summer and I need to stay in touch with my office. I will be in many locations in the USA during the home leave, so I need a cell phone that will send/receive international calls even in "remote" places like Gulf Shores, AL. Last year I tried a rental service that was based on GSM using my existing phone. It was unsatisfactory coverage. I know I can purchase a cheap cell phone in the USA but I don't want to subscribe to 6-12 months of service. Any suggestions for a low cost solution?

Several Major carriers (Sprint, AT&T, Verizion) will offer a no-contract rate plan for an additional $5-$10 per month. Outgoing cell phone international calls are expensive. I don't know the best way around that.

You can use a telecom prepaid card from someone like IDT (see airline magazines for details or their website) and make the international calls from your phone using that card.
