In my experience, MT is expensive all year round - it's one of the best values for Frequent Flyer miles.
Lacking those, Northwest zone coupons are something to check out. I believe the zone A to zone C flights can be had for less than $300. Sometimes, MT shows up in the middle zone B for an even better deal. Go over to the Coupon Connection Forum in the FlyerTalk Miles section, and either search for or ask about NW zone certs.
