THX Monahos & another ?
I am staying at the IBIS Airport hotel. How close is it to the airport, really? I am going to go into town and bop til I drop which won't be long since I can't sleep on planes and will be toast to begin with. Should I take the train back to Schipol and then a cab, or just take a cab from downtown and not mess with it? Or is there something in between? I don't need to go back to the airport just to get my bags from the locker. I've been to Amsterdam a few times but always on the train and it seems like the airport is a healthy cab ride from downtown. How late do the trains run?
Thanks in advance.

According to this site there is a train per hour between 12am and 6am; I cannot confirm, the earliest I've taken a train to AMS is 5:30AM.
The Ibis is 5-10 minutes from the airport. There is a free shuttle, but you may need to call the hotel to have it pick you up late at night.
Catch a cab if you missed your train or want to get home quick.
All the info you need about Schiphol can be found http://www.schiphol.nl/schiphol/main/home.jsp
if you take the time to navigate this site.
