Low Loads
One of the side things that struck me about the crashed flights was the low loads. Shows how bad things must have been for the airline industry before the crashes.
I hope Congress provides sonme financial relief. Our economy and our lifestyles are dependant on a relatively healthy air transportation system.

As part of the US Gov't airline "bailout" program all airline executives should have their pay cut to the level of a US Senator or Congressman (heck, even the level of the President works).
Airline CEO's (along with other industry CEO's) rarely cut their pay in times of crisis or economic downturn, but they sure will shaft their loyal employees and produce massive layoffs (recent MSNBC article puts US airline toll at approx. 100,000 layoffs).
$1.0 million in CEO pay goes a long way in paying reservation agents and FA's...$5.0 million goes even further!
Airline CEO's need to get real and give up the big bucks to support their industry and loyal staff members!

And I don't buy the CEOs' defense that "but we only get paid based on how well the airline is doing financially! So if the airline is doing poorly we don't make that much money". Bulls**t.
I know that's part of the package, but I'm sure they've still got their country club memberships, vacation homes, and sports cars.
They're definitely not hurting in the $ department.

Didn't the airline choose the crappy security which allowed this to happen to save money in the first place.
They took their chances by hiring these folks to ensure their planes were secure.
Now they want a bailout? Hmmmm..... Kind of like the morons who live in a Floodplain without flood insurance, who then go crying to FEMA to rebuild their houses at our expense. They get a free ride, while more responsible homeowners help shoulder the bill for them.
I think a pay cut for CEO's is in order before layoffs. Particularly if they're getting more of my tax money.

AND - they could still get through again today. Of course, the chance of the passengers tolerating their actions is another story.
But security has not changed. Just the hassles.
