A Poll Please...

How will this tragedy in the U.S. affect your near future travel plans - both personal and business-related?

HHonors Sep 13, 2001 11:27 pm

I do not have any intention on altering any of my travel plans.

Marysunshine Sep 14, 2001 6:35 am

I will travel as planned and not let terrorism win out.

wigstheone Sep 14, 2001 7:31 am

I will continue to travel for business and leisure. One difference, however, is that I expect to use trains much more between NYC and Boston and DC, as the time advantages of flying are likely to be greatly diminished.

kathnunley Sep 14, 2001 8:57 am

I will continue to fly, alone and with my family and be comfortable with it. Life goes on.
My view on flying though is now equal to my view of being in a tall building in NYC.

I won't let whoever is responsible for this dictate how I, as an American, travel within my own country.

I love to fly, and will continue to do so.

nw_with_attitude Sep 15, 2001 2:11 pm

I am in the system again next week, and will continue to fly. However, I have long taken precautions, and urge others to do the same.

It is also my hope that rather than this rag tag grab bag of fast security measures, an end to end system is devised and implemented.

I agree with wigstheone. I will generally continue to fly as much as I have in the past (although I can see myself missing many more flights since I'm generally running for the gate with my e-ticket and carryons). However, I will probably drive more to destinations like Austin and Dallas simply because it will take the same amount of time once you factor in the ticket counter and extra security. I would rather be driving and listening to a book on tape than waiting in line at an airport.

As I have no current travel plans, I'm gonna let the dust settle (no insensitive pun intended) for at least a few weeks. My only real apprehension is getting stuck overseas while the US starts an attack. Its not going to necessarily keep me home, but if I think things are imminent, I may not leave the country.

KathyWdrf Sep 15, 2001 11:06 pm

Two days before the attack, I made travel arrangements to go to NYC in early October for a long weekend to see a film at the New York Film Festival and partake of other cultural offerings there.

At the same time, I made plans to go to Singapore in late November for a combined vacation/mileage run.

I still plan to go on both trips, unless developments in the weeks before my trips convince me otherwise. In other words, my attitude is "wait and see."

I will not alter my current plans. Let's see if the airlines do (with fewer flights) Our family is leaving for Mexico in Oct. On Thurs. I purchased E tickets for Florida in November. We are hoping to go to Eurpoe for Easter.

RAD Sep 16, 2001 12:07 pm

Never did like E-tickets -- paper is so much better, especially when last-minute changes happen (often, for me) and a ticket needs to be endorsed over to another airline. Plus, it's harder to forge a ticket than a printed itinerary.

Flying again? I'm sitting in the Air Canada lounge in Toronto right now, trying to get home to Denver. I have trip coming up to Hong Kong, and probably another couple of trips before the year is out. It's cool.

Last night, my wife told me that if I had to, "be sure to kick some hijacker ...!"

kathnunley has a great point:
  • Flying is no more dangerous than it used to be.
  • Being in a skyscraper is more dangerous than it used to be.

I will continue as usual. There are still countries that I will not visit but that "blacklist" is the same for me as before the attack.

0524 Sep 16, 2001 2:36 pm

I'll drive shorthaul, but continue to fly longhaul, both for business and pleasure.

SFOPIT Sep 16, 2001 2:54 pm

No changes in my plans, other than having to reschedule some flights. I hope everyone takes the time to be more aware when they fly and care for everyone that much more.
