If we stop flying, the terrorists win.

I personally am going to ADD a trip to New York to my agenda, as soon as the city can accommodate tourists again. Just to see a show, go to dinner, pump some money into the NYC economy, and do my tiny part to get things moving again.

Having gotten more involved with th eflyertalk community during this tragedy, I will porbably fly a littl emore as I join an FT gathering or two.

My work and personal travel will not change.

Analise Sep 17, 2001 9:35 am

I will fly as per usual.

El Cochinito Sep 17, 2001 1:04 pm

No changes here. Still plan to go to Denver, Miami, Detroit, and Washington DC over the next five weeks. And have already booked our vacation next April in Singapore and Tokyo. All on UA.

I cancelled one trip this weekend, but only because my wife's overlapping trip (to a different destination) was cancelled by the airline. So I decided it was best to stay home with her. I will probably travel as much, but probably with fewer short weekend trips and more longer vacations to maximize the time at the destination and reduce total transit time proportionately. I will also probably drive for shorter trips (like RDU-DCA / RDU-BWI) when I might have flown before if the airfare was cheap enough.

I'll be looking for some bargin fares comming up, but no more short flights. I'll probally be driving what I would have flown before due to the adding inconvience (Destinations < 500 miles or so).

BBRebozo - please come to NYC as soon as you can. NYC is bouncing back - we will not let the terrorists win. NYC is ready and able to accomodate tourists now - you just won't be able to visit the downtown area and probably not the Statue, but rest is here and waiting.

I have friends flying in from London next week who have never been to my fair city and I plan to show them that we are as great as ever.

Thanks for thinking of us.

As a newly arrived New Yorker I have to agree with the previous post. There are million things to do and so many interesting people to meet. It's just a matter of time that it will bounce back. The corner where I lives, (St. Marks & 3rd) is already filled with pedestrians.

I flew yesterday from Dulles to Newark and back again today so I guess I was really tempting fate by using two of the airports that were involved in the hijacking. I will not let the *******s stop me from doing my job. I also believe that when God decides it's your time then that's it and you can't prevent the time and manner of your death by hiding in a closet.

PigsFly81 Sep 19, 2001 2:35 pm

It won't alter my plans. Going home to see the rents out of BWI like always and off to Europe in the spring.

pjs Sep 19, 2001 5:38 pm

I will continue to make the weekly DL run to ATL. We have cancelled a trip to NYC next weekend. I really didn't like the idea of my asthmatic pregnant wife and daughter walking around with all the dust and smoke in the air. We hope to reschedule after the baby's born in January.

It's of fear of flying that will keep me at home - it's the "no tweezers" mentality security.

MilesManiac Sep 20, 2001 9:39 am

I will continue to fly as usual, but did have to cancel a trip to Italy for Sunday only because the group traveling cancelled.
My other trips are a GO for me, including International!

lyss710 Sep 20, 2001 10:13 am

Not much traveling for me right now, mainly because I didn't have any scheduled before the hijackings. However, if airlines reinstate some decent sale fares, I may be off and flying again in 2002 (I've used up all vacation for 2001 already).

No company travel, at least for now - we have a company directive to only travel by air when ABSOLUTELY necessary, and even then there are a lot of restrictions as to where we can go (obviously no Afghanistan, Sudan, Libya, etc., but also no South Africa, Kenya, Morocco and some others that don't make a lot of sense to me).

aqueouschief Sep 20, 2001 12:00 pm

I agree with many of you that we need to keep flying with confidence and not let paranoia rule the day.

I for one would like to see the airlines reinstate webfares ASAP and other sales to being to attract customers quickly. i will take advantage of them.

I think that this can be done, especially when Bush reaffirms his support for the industry in his speech tonight. I fiormly believe that the airlines will be helped back on their feet (notice I did not say bailed out).

Let's get out there! Off to web portals as we speak...
