Welcome to FlyerTalk!
You can do a search as Santiago has been discussed in the recent past. I used to travel to SCL frequently and always stayed in an area of town called Providencia. Many nice shops and great restaurants. For a great steak in this part of town go to Eladio's. It's an Argentine restaurant and one of my favorites. Two other restaurants are Aqui Esta Coco and El Otro Sitio. As for a hotel, I used to stay in a place called Santiago Park Plaza. It is a small, very nice hotel.
Enjoy Chile and be sure to try a Pisco Sour!

I'd log on to United.com and look for a link to Hemispheres Magazine and their "Three Perfect Days in ....." series. I'm pretty sure they did one on Santiago at some point.

I concur with DaveM's recommendations.
Restaurant Eladio is my favorite place to eat in Santiago (I think the location in Las Condes at the corner of Av. Amerigo Vespucci and Av. Ossa is the best) and Providencia is a delightful area to stay in. A one day excursion to Vina del Mar and Valparaiso is also a nice side trip.

I visted Santiago in June for the first time. Based on a recommendation from this board I booked a room on the internet at the Best Western Atton for $68 a night including breakfast. It was brand new, clean, good service and about 4 blocks from the Hyatt.
