Higher airline prices!

What happened? Yesterday prices were decent; today they doubled! I have been having a hard time getting into online sites and when I do I'm shocked at the prices. Example; yesterday AA had RT from SWF to XNA for $245 (5 different flights), for the end of Sept. Today that same ticket is $551. I've checked other fares to other places too and the fares are twice as much. Does anyone know what this is all about?

This happened on a CO flight I was putting off booking until our plans firmed up. IAH to SEA round trip was $198 and now it is $458. Everybody jumped up except America West & Frontier.

Perhaps they have to cover revenue lost due to the elimination of Saturday stays on some routes for business passengers. The business folks were subsidizing the vacationers, but it looks as if that may change...have changed.

SEA to IAH round trip is usually in the $450+ range since IAH is one of CO's hubs. The only times I've seen it cheaper is when CO matches Frontier or another discount carrier.

Did it occur to you the flight may have sold out at that price?
