Shorts in Beijing
I am leaving for Beijing in fews days for the usual tourist sites. No business. The temperature is forecasted in the high 80's. Are shorts ( decent lenght) acceptable in Beijing? I do not wish to offend by wearing offensive dress.

For touring around beijing shorts are great. I wouldnt reccomend doing business in them but if thats not what your going for than better to be comfortable. As a rule, most places that have a problem with shorts are practicing religous areas (mosques.....) so pack the long pants if your going to SE asia.

The PRC, like Thailand, is one of those wonderful countries where you need only bring one change of clothes--everything else you can buy there cheaply. A pair of shorts (cheap ones) can be had for 15 RMB. Maybe cheaper!

For our trip to Beijing last year, we wore nothing but shorts during our entire stay. Although most days were in the 80's, we visited most of the primary tourist sites without any problems with our dress.
Dinner was had in a variety of restaurants, from casual diners to slightly more upscale establishments, all while wearing shorts.
Unlike Mexico City or Seychelles, where shorts are frowned upon, the latter for dinner, Beijing proved to be tolerant.
