Molokai
I am going to hawaii for a 7 day trip, and have thought about a one day trip over to Molokai. Why? Why not?
Anyways, has anyone been there? I am looking for suggestions. Is the hike to Kalaupapa worth the money and time? (Mules and I dont get along) Any other places that shouldnt be missed? Will most places accept credit cards, or do I need to bring extra cash?
Thank you to everyone!

Molokai is a very nice small island with little tourism. The Kaulapapa hike without the mules will be a lot to squeeze in for just 1 day since there is little else you can do. There are probably 4-5 morning flights and the same # of afternoon flights so getting there from Kahului or Honolulu is quite easy. The main town, Kaunakaki, is like the classic place where you can throw a stone from one end to the other. I don't believe the entire island of Molokai even has a traffic light and the most famous (an only!) eating chain is Dairy Queen. In short, it's certainly the country with a total laid back and relaxing atmosphere. If you don't mind spending a little extra $$s, take a helicopter tour around the island where you will see plenty of beautiful ranges, valleys and other sites inaccessible by car (e.g. Kakahaia National Wildlife Refuge).

There is now a ferry between Lahaina, Maui and Molokai with service in the AM and PM (it is used by Molokaians to commute to work in Maui) It takes about 45 minutes. I haven't done this yet but plan to do it as a day trip in July.
