Avoid Caesars Palace Las Vegas
I just came back from a convention at Caesars. I am amazed that this hotel markets itself as treating ALL hotel guests as if they were Emperor Caesar himself.
Right from the beginning, my experience was such that I am determined to expose them right here on the internet. First of all, I waited over 55 minutes on line to check in. When I finally got to the desk (around 5pm) the lady behind the counter said that my room would not be ready for several hours, even though check in began at 3pm. Secondly, she said that the hotel was unable to store my luggage. I was finally able to get a key to my room by 7:15pm. What was that all about? My first night was fine. The second and third nights, I was awoken at 6am by jackhammers. Caeasars is building a wing of 900 rooms. When I called to ask them to stop, the front manager said, most callously, absolutely not. This is not the first hotel I've stayed in in which there has been construction. When I've stayed at Starwood hotels, for example, they ask the workers to stop until 9am. At Caesars, 6am is the time they begin no matter who they awaken. They said that I could move if I were willing to wait in the room between 3pm-7pm for arrangements to be made. Were they kidding? They said literally "Take it or leave it, sugar". I'm not asking to be treated like one of those high rollers, but I did spend quite a bit of money gambling and this is the way they treat me??? When you spend money on a hotel room, you expect to be able to sleep. Isn't this the purpose? Caesars did not see it that way. They then offered me a coupon for the buffet as a way of making it up to me. How patronizing. With all the choices of hotels in Vegas, they royally blew it. Never again. |
If they start later, then they will have to work into the HOT hours of the afternoon, when they prefer to have their beers!

A friend is thinking about booking a meeting at Caesars. I'll e-mail this thread to him.

The check-in line at Caesar's is a joke...I have not stayed there for years, but everytime I have walked through the lobby there is a line that only makes me happy I wasn't staying there.

Which tower were you staying in? I am booked into the Palace tower in July and am concerned after reading your post.

Just back from Caesars and I agree that the check-in procedure is ludicrous. I was in line for 45 minutes. They had only 3 check-in positions open. There were several check-out stations with no more than 3-4 people waiting to check out, someone sitting at the "golf" station with no customers, two persons at the concierge station, again with little activity. I was in the Palace Towers and saw/heard no construction. Everything after check-in was fine, but I am so put off by that long wait, particularly after a long flight, that I am unlikely to return.

I've stayed at MGM (the largest hotel in the world), Mandalay Bay, the Luxor, and the LV Hilton. Never have I had check-in experiences like I did at Caesars and believe me, there were huge conferences going on during those times too.
I went to the Hotel Manager, not the front desk manager to complain. He could not care less. And yes, he offered me another room but he wanted me to wait in my room for up to 4 hours in the middle of the day for them to arrange it. The construction was all over the place so all towers can be affected. It really depends on where they decide to use the jackhammer. I was in the Palace Tower. There are better hotels out there...avoid Caesars if you can. |
I walked through Ceasars and Bellagio's front desk and both of these hotels had tramdemous amount of customers standing in line!
After staying in the Doubletree off the strip, I think this hotel will be my prime candidate next time! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif ------------------ Al |
We've been going to Caesars for years, but the last 2 or 3 stays have been really disappointing. The place has gone downhill significantly since Park Place took over. The lines for check-in are just the start. The restaurants have been big losers - food quality has deteriorated and the service even more so.
The service in the casino is even worse - try to visit the change booth and you'll stand in line longer than check-in. And what used to be some of the friendliest employees in Vegas are now some of the nastiest. Our loyalties have turned - not sure where yet - maybe Mandalay Bay or the Venetian. We'll have to see. Just a note to say Caesars Tahoe is just the opposite - one of the nicest/friendliest group of employees in any hotel casino (with absolutely high quality service I know of) anywhere in the U.S. I hope Park Place doesn't destroy them as well. |
I agree with JerryFF. We too used to love to stay there, but noticed it wasn't what it used to be .. even under ITT ownership it was sliding but not like the recent couple of years. After our last stay I vowed to try something else the next time. Last time I was there I was attending a convention at Mandalay Bay and stayed there. Mandalay Bay was fabulous. Unfortunately, 55 minute waits are not unusual if you aren't a casino guest at these places. I can't believe that you didn't just have the bellman check your bags for you. They have a huge storage area there and are set up for that sort of stuff. $5 or $10 goes a long way in Lost Vegas. -David |
Ahh, finally an advantage to staying at the Flamingo Hilton, across the road from Caesars. We were there for Kentucky Derby weekend, zipped through the HHonors line and got our room keys in two minutes.

According to the Travel Channel, Las Vegas just keeps getting more popular every year. I don't think long lines should be a big surprise.
I guess they figure, if people are stupid enough to gamble their money away (often because the idiot box told them it was really fun and popular with singles, couples and families), they're stupid enough to stand in line for almost an hour. |
I visit Caesars every time I got to Vegas. I like their gambling, I like their shopping mall (to look at). I haven't stayed there in 10 years because it was obvious to me (my opinion, details not worth repeating) that if you are not one of their preferred guests, they don't care about you. I don't have that feeling at any other hotel. On the other hand, even though I have enough personal experience to draw this conclusion, that doesn't mean my opinion (one guest out of 100's of thousands) to generalize for everyone else.
