Access to CRS Sabre/Worldspan/Amadeus, etc.

I read about access to Sabre/Worldspan, etc. for $50/mo in the following thread. Does anyone know how to go about this. I am NOT a travel agent and do not mind not having the ability to ticket as long as I can make reservations and have someone else ticket it. This is more for private fun (expensive I understand) and not for use/misuse.

You can subscribe to Sabre/Worldspan/Amadeus for around $50.00 per month---a steep price to pay. The only thing you will not be able to do is run tickets, a major disadvantage. The two ways around this would be to make yourself a reservation and call the airline to ticket it, or see if a local travel agent would be willing to issue tickets off your "system".

Alternatively, can you work with any major travel agency to be their rep and use their ITA number to make reservations (not ticketing - which I understand you will need to do through them). I once researched this a lot but did not find simple ways (there were all these agencies that charged you a fee and gave you access to reservations - but it was by phone/primitive systmes not CRS).

Ask your local travel agent if they will allow you to tap into their CRS system (you pay for the monthly fee). If you allow them to ticket your reservations (by Queing them over) they might just let you.

If you can't find a travel agent who is willing to do this, please email me and I will set you up with my travel agent who is willing to provide this service.

One word of caution, some airlines (like NW) are getting very upset with bogus bookings or past ticketing date reservations. If you make a reservation and keep it active w/o either ticketing it or canceling it, the airline may send you a debit memo.

The hidden benefit to booking travel this way is travel agents send in their reports every Tuesday. If you book a nonrefundable ticket, you can always void it out as long as it is before the next Tuesday.

Full blown Sabre is not very user friendly. It is very powerful but it takes awhile to learn all of the codes.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

http://www.sabre.com/travelagent/ta_sabrenet.html looks like the product you're looking for. However there is a disclaimer in bold at the bottom of the page:

Users must be sponsored by a Sabre Host Agency. -- Please have the Sabre Host agency contact their local Sabre Account Executive to order this product.

I sure wish they'd just bring back EasySabre!
