I live in Colorado Springs so I am biased but there is SOOOOO much to do there it boggles the mind. If you are an active person there are countless hiking/biking trails very near. You can drive up pikes peak for some amazing views.

If you have the time you can take the COG up to the peak (This is an AMAZING trip)

Garden of the Gods is a great place to bike/hike/rollerblade or take a drive threw.

I have lived in several places in my life but call Colorado Springs home, although I am about 100 miles to the north presently. I agree with annerj as I too am biased with the area. The summers are fantastic there with temperatures in the 80s and humidity very low. Bring the sun tan lotion as the sun shines in Colorado around 300+ days a year. The afternoons can brings a short thunderstorm but those clear out in little time and cools off the afternoons (humidity does not stick around). Dining out on a patio in the evenings are some of my favorite memories. I have never stayed at the Broadmoor resort or played golf there. I have eaten at one of the restaurants there and was very pleased with the service and quality. There is a reason this resort is a 5 star and has held this ranking for a great many years. The Broadmoor is expensive but if money is not a primary concern then I would recommend a vacation to Colorado Springs. By the way, Colorado Springs is what motivated the writing of America the Beautiful.

Yes, this was before the miles and miles of tract-housing out east, strip malls, chain restaurants, and traffic jams.

But you're right -- of all the places I've been in the U.S. ... I would choose Colorado Springs ten times over to live in.
