AMS hotels
I need a recommendation for a central hotel in Amsterdam that will fit two adults and two kids in the same room, luxury not necessary. We'll be there in late April.
Also, what is Schipol's policy on day hotels for passengers in transit? Are departure taxes easily avoided? We'll have a ten-hour layover there en route to Nairobi in early April. At Narita the Nikko arrangement is a cakewalk---I'm hoping at Schipol it will be just as easy.
Thank you very much for all advice.

As Terenz said, no fees are collected for leaving the airport. There is actually a mercure hotel in the airside terminal, so you don't even have to pass through immigration.
With a 10 hour layover you may want to go to a real hotel near the airport. I seem to recall a hotel right across from the terminal but can't remember which one. Maybe it's the Sheraton, but I could be confusing it with Franfurt.
