upper deck on 742?

Hello. Is the upper deck on a 747-200 or -sp a bit claustrophic? I got a cheap fare on Corsair from Oakland to Paris next week to visit a friend and decided to go "grande large" class. Although Corsair doesn't seem to be mentioned at all on these boards, really the question is how small is the upper deck on 742? Peaceful and 'exclusive' feeling or small and claustrophic? Is their enough head room to stand up? Their seats are 2-2 with personal videos in seats and presumably better food. I would not have chosen Corsair econ and would have paid more for AF econ, but since Corsairs 'business' class is considerably cheaper, and I need to get to paris, I thought I'd give it a try.

There is no real difference in 'feeling' close in the 744-200 vs the 400. For one, there are only 12 seats and not so cavernous. More attention and less traffic. I moved from a bulkhead aisle seat to the 3rd (last) row with two empty seats and it was a nice improvement.

It depends on the configuration. UA used to have 4 rows (16 seats) and it was "comfortable enough". (They were the old C seats). I always liked it up there. LH has 2 rows (8 seats) of F. I'd expect Corsair to have 3 or 4 rows. And hopefully a closet for your carry-on (there are some very small bins next to the window). If there are more than 4 rows, I'd stay downstairs.

It is the best place to be in business or coach(some airlines put coach seats up there). It feels like you are in your own small private jet. Becuase the ratio of seats to FA's is smaller, you get much better service than downstairs.
