advice needed on LAS packages

My oldest son and his wife would like to "do" Las Vegas over the week of the fourth of July... say 7/2 - 7/6... they have no status ... can anyone recommend the best source for putting together a package for them? They would like to stay in the Treasure Island area of the strip... thru travelocity, I come up w/ around $1260 for airfare (DL out of CLT) w/ flight times that aren't red-eye flights and four nights at Treasure Island (anyone stayed there? they just want to be in the center of things) .. I got about the same on Travelscape.. they could fly out of either GSO or GSP just as easily...

Anyone have any suggestions? I appreciate your input greatly!

Try the actual airline web sites and check for vacation packages. I 've had very good luck and savings through their vacation divisions. I've even gotten flights when none were available through their regular inventory as well as hotels. Fourth of July is prime time anywhere in the USA.

Also check the FlyerTalk Trip Reports forum (especially Quiet Lion's threads) for input on Las Vegas hotels and activities. Good luck!

I am so hurt you didn't ask your buddy cigarman. I fly everywhere domestic. I do vegas 20+ times a year. Svpii, the answer is flying out of CLT and returning to GSO. Daytime flights on CO for $403. On US air it is also CLT depart GSO return for $410. Treasure island can be had for $89 dollars at LVRS.com and $90 at travelocity.com . This would be $1162 daytime flights and the property you want. If you are trying to save money. Harrah's is across the street and is about $20 a night less. I know you have a mental block about rdu... but it is cheaper!

I KNEW I could count on my buddy cigarman to give me the answer! In my limited time for research today, I came to the same conclusion - that booking airfare and hotel individually and not the package deal is the best bet - actually cheaper and better flight times. They aren't married to TI, just that area of the strip 'cause someone told them that's where it's happening (they're in their late 20's). Not that I would know - even tho I was there for four days last week - with a couple of dinner exceptions, I only saw the half mile between the Stardump (where our alliance partner booked us) and the convention center

Thanks, buddy! See you in chat~

Actually you won't see me in chat... it's broken AGAIN. P.S. you get miles by booking the air seperate.

svpii,

As others have noted, check the various airlines' vacation sites. Many of them use the same supplier, Mark Travel. Here is a link that will take you to many of them. http://WWW.marktravel.com/travgroups/sbugrid.htm
Note that you will probably get the some hotel rates for all airlines serviced by Mark Travel. Make sure you check these against those not run by Mark.

Many of the various airlines offer land packages (minus airfare) and without a car; also known as hotel only. Check this site for links to various prepaid discount hotel sites: http://www.a2zlasvegas.com/rooms/index.html#strip

As to airline fares, you have been here a while and know how that goes. Just remember that LAS is the one destination where a Saturday night stay is not normally needed to get the lowest fare. Hotel rates on Fridays and Saturdays are MUCH higher than other days during the week.

Don't forget to check the web sites for individual casinos. Many of the best deals are found there. In addition to the big travel sites (Travelocity, Expedia), try Amex's site. Recently, I have been able to get several special Amex rates in various locales. Travelocity currently has a $155 rate for the Four Seasons (top floors of the Mandalay Bay) for the dates you mentioned.

I would suggest booking the best hotel rate I could currently find that is refundable. As I got closer to the actual trip (especially within the last 2 weeks before departue), I would keep checking the hotels websites for better deals.

If they are considering Treasure Isle, they might want to look at the Mirage. I was there about two weeks ago. The service there was the best I have had of any hotel stay in the last 2-3 years (I spend about 75 nights/yr in hotels). The Mirage has recently acquired heavy competition from Paris, the Venetian and Bellagio and has responded with some very good deals.

Lastly, they might want to check the following message boards: http://www.talkvegas.com/cgi-bin/ubb/Ultimate.cgi http://www.vegaswatch.com/bulletinboard.htm
