Circumnavigate the Globe, Pole to Pole

There's no web link that I could find for this trip, but it's sponsored by Airways and Concorde Spirit Tours. Thought it might be of interest...

Join Apollo X / Apollo-Soyuz Commander Tom Stafford and other aviation adventurers aboard Polar Byrd II, a Sout African Airways B747-400, as we attempt to beat the speed record to circumnavigate the gobe, pole to pole. A Boeing 747SP operating as Pam Am Flight 50 has held the record for 23 years since it flew from SFO to SFO -- via both Poles -- in 54 hours, 7 minutes, 12 seconds on Oct 28-30, 1977.

Polar Byrd II will depart New York-JFK on Saturday Nov 17, 2001. The SAA B747-400 will fly nonstop to Rio Gallegos at the southern tip of Argentina. After refueling, we will fly 7 hrs across Antartica (in daylight), becoming only the third commercial passenger flight in history to overfly the South Pole. Following another technical stop in Perth, Western Australia, Polar Byrd II will head north to Beijing. Then it's over the North Pole to land at JFK on Monday, Nov 19, 2001, an estimated 51 hr, 11 min after we left, with a planned flying time of 45h 56 min.

Premium First Class: US$14.495 (less than 6 remain)
Premium Business Class: US$9.495 (57 avail)
Premium Economy Class*: US$7.495 (166 avail)

*Maximum of 6 seats will be sold in any row of 10 economy class seats.

Too bad it's not Michael Palin tagging along, or I would consider it!

Check this out! Pretty! http://www.chicago.com/cgi-bin/gc?PA...OR=&MAP-STYLE=

For a total of 39947 km, or just 53 km short of the earth's circumference! Nice job!

Droneklax: cool link!

Don't worry, I think they'll put in at least 53 km circling JFK...!
